Armchair Christmas Shopping - My Favorite Websites

It's the most wonderful time of the year!  You know, the days when moms everywhere wake up at 3:00 a.m. in a cold sweat, thinking about everything we have to get done between now and December 24.  Between work, the kids' school activities, Mike's high school basketball games, Avery's basketball games and practices, both girls' piano lessons, tumbling, Girl Scouts, etc., etc. etc. (pause while I check my blood pressure), I am beginning to realize I am simply not going to make it to a real life store.  The last opportunity I had to really dig into a shopping marathon was Black Friday, but I simply cannot deal with the hoards of non-expert shoppers who refuse to acknowledge proper shopping etiquette!

Side note:  Proper shopping etiquette can be boiled down to everyone else getting the freak out of my way so I can get my shop on.

After getting past the numbing depression brought on by the thought of a complete absence of mall hopping, I have come to accept that I am going to have to do my gift buying online this year.  Fortunately, I am a professional.  I have crafted a no-fail list of the best shopping websites over the years.  Now, because I feel compelled to give during the Christmas season, I am sharing this cherished list with you, my pals.  (However, if I attempt to purchase an item from these sites following this post and find it is sold out, I will hack into said site to find out if any of you were the offending purchaser.  I will then stalk you until you hand over the desired item.  You have been warned.)

1.  The Vintage Pearl - I have mentioned this site before, because it is wonderful.  Beautiful, personalized, heartfelt jewelry at great prices.  Being based in Tulsa and owned by an amazing lady earns the site many bonus points, but it would have made the list anyway.

2.  Shari's Berries - Chocolate-covered strawberries the size of my fist.  This site is particularly handy for gifting to out-of-towners because you can have them delivered to their door.  I have used this site several times and have never been disappointed.

I have already ordered for a few people this year.  It could be you.  You should probably buy a gift for me, just in case.

3.  Red Envelope - Personalized items for just about anyone, including cookware, barware, household items, clothes, baby items and more.  I got these personalized beer glasses for my brother-in-law (don't tell him.)

Mike wants to keep them so I think that's a good sign.

4.  Etsy - If you want one-of-a-kind items, check out this site, where crafty folks go to hock their wares.  I have bought baby clothes, hand-made costumes and party invitations.  As a matter of fact, I got a little something for myself last week.  Check out this little bauble:

It's actually much more lovely in person and it's handmade by some lady in Texas.

5.  Zappos - Not a new idea, but it's probably the site I visit most for shoes and clothes.  It has the best searchability of any site of its kind and best of all, after a couple of purchases, they award you VIP status which means FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING!  This could be a lifesaver a couple of days before Christmas.  Returns are free too, which is completely necessary for clothes and shoes.

That should be enough to get you going.  I know I'm forgetting some great ones.  If you have other suggestions, please help a girl out and post them in the comments.

Until next time, shop friendly!

Stacy

Pinspiration: Blinged-Out Cons

I think it's safe to say that everyone in the free world has discovered Pinterest by now.  I have managed to get sucked in far enough that I actually feel my blood pressure rise when the app won't cooperate.  (How will I repin all those workout tips that I'll never find time to do because I spend my free time on Pinterest?!  Argh!)

Bye Bye Summer

Well, hello there, friends!  Now that Mike and the girls are settling into school, I am back from my summer hiatus!

Save Your Ringworm for Your Momma

As social media, texting and email become more common, all of us become more casual.  Some are more casual than others.  Too, too casual.

My Life in Quotes

I don't know what it is, but I just love witty little quips and quotes.  These are probably my favorite thing about Pinterest -- the sayings people post that make me go, "Oh, that's so true!"  (Footnote:  I hate it when people post these on Facebook.  I can't explain the discrepancy.  It's just one of the things that makes me, me.)  So I have compiled a list of those that define me, inspire me or just plain make me giggle.

Rant & Review: "I Don't Know How She Does It"

I went by Redbox last night for a movie to pass the time during our quiet Saturday night at home.  Most everything was checked out, so I ended up with "I Don't Know How She Does It" by default.  I now believe that Sarah Jessica Parker is my doppelganger, only thinner and quirkier.

Advice to My Teenage Self

Remember yesterday, when you were 18 and a size 2 but still thought you were too overweight to wear a bikini?  Oh, if only we would have appreciated it while we had it.  (Sigh.)  If I could sit down with my teenage self, this is what I would tell me:

Lions and Tigers and First Graders, Oh My!

Yesterday, I got to spend the day with about 300 first graders at the Tulsa Zoo.  It isn't often I get to do that kind of straight-up mom stuff, but I planned ahead and kept my calendar clear and, low and behold, I had a whole day with my baby.

Butterflies Are For Dummies

I am no relationship expert, but there are a few things I've learned in over 15 years of marriage.  My marriage is not perfect.  In fact, I think I am a pretty difficult person to get along with

Robbers Cave State Park a/k/a the Day We Pretended to Be Outdoorsy

I hope everyone is surviving the return from Spring Break.  I enjoy Spring Break even though I generally work through it.  There is just something about Mike and the kids being home and getting to run around and have a good time that makes me happy.

Survivor: The Elevator Edition

Last night as I left work, a nice little power surge left me stuck in the elevator for a few minutes.  Fortunately, one of my law partners, Scott, was stuck with me, so there was very little freak-out factor.  Scott is very resourceful and I assumed that if it came down to it, he could fashion some sort of device to free us using his shoelace, a ceiling tile and my iPad charger.

Cat 1, Washing Machine 0

Nicky (look up high)
one day before his "incident"
I have really debated whether to write about our latest family "adventure", because it's really pretty horrible, but it's also miraculous.  So miraculous that I've finally come down on the side of sharing.  So here goes.

Did I Mention I'm a Love Guru?

Facebook is like a peephole into your friends' bad decisions.  I constantly see many of my single friends posting about one bad relationship after another.  Many of these ladies have been my friends for more years than I've been alive (considering I am only 23 and I've known them for three decades.  It adds up in my head.  Shut up.)

Picks from the Red Carpet

I must say that overall the fashion at the Oscars this year was a big yawn.  What was with all the creams and nudes?  If I ever appear on the red carpet, you can bet I will be in something bright enough to catch your eye and slinky enough to make the papers.

If This is Curvy, What Am I?

Levi's now has a new line of jeans with the tagline "Hotness comes in all shapes and sizes."  The line is called Curve ID and is touted as focusing on shape rather than size.

I Can't Stand it When...

Certain things just really get under my skin.  I will admit that perhaps I have a longer-than-average list of pet peeves.

Maybe I need to work on tolerance.

In the meantime, here are a few things that make me want to bang my head against the wall.

Comments Working Now (I Hope)

Several people have told me they have been unable to comment on my blog posts.  I think I have fixed the problem.  When you click on the comments under a specific post, you should get a pop-up box and you can see any comments from others and add your own.  This isn't how I would prefer but apparently this is a common problem with Blogger.  Let me know if you are still having problems!

Two Worlds Collide

Yesterday was one of "those" days.  You know, the days when you have HAD ENOUGH and you feel like your head will explode and you really just need silence, a bath and a glass of wine.

10 Reasons Why I Sacrifice My Feet for Fashion

Most men and a few women just don't get why we wear 5-inch heels when there is a perfectly good pair of tennis shoes (or 6 or 7 pair) sitting in our closet.    I would really like to let the shoes speak for themselves.

Ramblings of a Basketball Mom/Wife

Last weekend was a basketball-full weekend for me.  I started with 6A girls high school basketball Friday night, followed by 4th grade girls basketball on Saturday morning, and finished off with some more high school ball on Saturday night.  Don't you wish you were me (she said with sarcasm)?

A Woman of Many Shoes

I am a woman of many shoes.  No, not literally.  Well, yes, literally, but I'm talking more in the figurative sense.  On any given day, I may walk my way through 4-inch heels, flips flops, Uggs and tennis shoes.  It recently occurred to me that shoes are a pretty good representation of my life and the lives of a lot of other moms I know.
